The Speed Bump today

It seems like there will always be speed bumps that we need to deal with along the way.  This morning Gary called me early in the morning asking me to come down.  Gary had some internal bleeding which was causing some issues.  He has since been moved to ICU where he has had a scope to identify where the bleeding was coming from.  The doctors had their suspicions confirmed when they found the bleeding in the esophagus.  This is fairly normal for someone in Gary's condition as the veins in the walls of the esophagus are very thin and can not handle the pressure that comes from not delivering the blood to the organs as they are meant to do.  But the doctors were able to stop the bleeding and Gary is currently resting.  Gary had to receive some blood and platelets which reminds me even more the importance of donating blood on a regular basis.

Some positive news is that his kidneys have responded well to the medication that the doctors have been giving him.  The doctor informed me that Gary is one of the "lucky ones" since only 30% of patients that are in Gary's position respond well to the medication.  I would not call this luck but just another example of God placing his healing hands on Gary.  What a great physician we can call Father!

Tuesday has some more changes coming our way.  We hope to be transferred to the Toronto General in the transplant ward which will hopefully make any other tests and meetings happen quicker then if he stayed at the Juravinski.  In fact this transfer could be tonight if a bed becomes available.  The sooner we can get Gary listed, the sooner that Bob (yes we have named this annoying body part) can come out.  Mom Drost is also flying in which will be nice for Gary.

Throughout this all Gary and I are constantly being upheld in our Fathers hands.  Knowing that we have the communion of saints to support us is also a huge blessing to us.
